Welcoming Roy into the party, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "Mukul Roy expressed his desire to join BJP without any conditions. Mukul Roy was one of the founder members of the TMC and was considered to West Bengal Chief Minister's Mamata Banerjee until he had a falling out with her. Upon joining the BJP, Mukul Roy said, "TMC couldn't have been formed without the support of the BJP. Mukul Roy, on his part, only said, "The law will take its own course". Trinamool Congress has said Mukul Roy has joined the BJP only to save himself from the ongoing investigation.
