Gordon Stimmell, a veteran journalist and the Star’s wine critic from 2000 to 2015, has died. In a blog post from 2011 titled “How Gord Stimmell wrecked my day,” author and wine writer Travis Oke lamented his inability to purchase a wine Gord recommended in the previous day’s paper due to a sudden increase in demand. “And, boy, could he write!” said VanSickle, who replaced Stimmell as the Toronto Sun’s wine writer after Stimmell came to the Star.
