Elizabeth Baggott, Mary Toogood, Margaret Fletcher, Shirley Hackett and Eileen Ross were pupils when the school opened, on March 12, 1944. Mrs Fletcher, the first child to be enrolled at the institution, said it was extraordinary meeting her friends from the past. Mrs Ross agreed. We did not need to lock our doors and we walked to school alone,'' Mrs Hackett said. About 150 people attended the celebrations which included photo sessions with past pupils, a dinner at the Ascot Park Hotel and a Mass at St Patrick's Church.
