Charles Shackleford, whose alleged indiscretions during his North Carolina State career in part led to the ouster of celebrated coach Jim Valvano, was found dead Friday at a home in Kinston, N.C., police there told multiple news outlets. Those allegations and others like it involving his teammates led N.C. State to buy out the remaining years on Valvano’s contract in April 1990. A grand jury eventually declined to bring charges against Shackleford over the alleged point-shaving, citing a lack of evidence.
