Kanta and leaders of pro-farmers’ organisations who were detained by the police after they tried to barge into the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday, spent the night in the police van even after they were released. Mr. Kanta refused to get down from the van and decided to stay back in police custody until the government fulfils their demands. Mr. Manpade accused police of creating fake proceedings of bail considering their age, “We have not asked for bail, instead we forced the police to send us to jail” he added. Mr. Manpade said that the other demands include revising minimum support price for red gram to Rs.7,500 from Rs.5,500 per quintal, and imposing 30% duty on imports of pulses.
