Dominique Heaggan-Brown, the former officer, was charged with homicide late last year for shooting Sylville K. Smith, who fled from a traffic stop in August. [Minn. officer acquitted in shooting of Philando Castile during traffic stop, dismissed from police force]While Smith was lifting the gun, Heaggan-Brown fired the first shot, hitting Smith in the arm, the complaint said. After that shot, Smith fell, and less than two seconds later, Heaggan-Brown fired again, striking him in the chest.
