Former German PoW leaves £384,000 to Scottish village in will

The former Waffen SS soldier was captured in France in 1944 when he was 19 and held at the PoW camp at Cultybraggan near Comrie. The German died in 2014, aged 90, and his ashes were scattered in the hills above the camp. His son, also called George, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “It sounds like an unbelievable story but it’s absolutely true. He was quite specific in his will that the money should only be used on the elderly in the village,” Carson said.
