A former Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officer is has been found guilty of rape and human trafficking. The former EMPD superintendent, Adam Cummings, is expected to appear before the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Friday for sentencing. "The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigated this case, presented its evidence to court, leading to Cummings being found guilty and convicted of three counts of rape and one [of] human trafficking. Whilst his co-accused, Tebogo Maregele was convicted as an accomplice [of the] rape of a 9-year-old and two counts of exploitation of children for financial gain," said IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola. On 22 January, the sentencing was postponed to 19 February because the defence attorneys were not present in court.
