Kenton "Kent" Thomas, former editor and publisher of the Beatrice Daily Sun and a longtime newspaper executive in Nebraska, died last Saturday in Overland Park, Kansas. Born Nov. 20, 1931, in Salina, Kansas, Thomas started his career at The Examiner in Independence, Missouri, in 1957 after graduating from the University of Kansas. He worked at several Stauffer Communications newspapers before becoming the editor and publisher of the Stauffer-owned York News-Times in 1966. Stauffer purchased the Beatrice paper in 1976, and Thomas became the paper's editor and publisher. Thomas is survived by Mary, his wife of 69 years; daughter Wendy Guilles; son Steven; four granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
