NEW DELHI: Two Air India engineers were grounded on Monday as they reportedly "forgot" to remove pins from landing gear - which ensure that wheels of an aircraft on ground do not accidentally retract - while clearing a plane to take off. It was a slip by the engineers who were busy on something else and forgot to remove the pins on the landing gear. The website of a leading aircraft manufacturer defines an overweight landing as a landing made at a gross weight in excess of the maximum design (structural) landing weight for a particular model. "A pilot may consider making an overweight landing when a situation arises that requires the airplane to return to the takeoff airport..... In these cases, the airplane may arrive at the landing airport at a weight considerably above the maximum design landing weight.
