It’s that the U.S. has enough to deal with inside its own borders without worrying about changes to international borders. The Centers for Disease Control is once again recommending masks indoors in high-transmission areas for the fully vaccinated, and for all schoolchildren in classrooms. The new border rules allow only fully vaccinated people to cross into Canada, and also require them to show a negative COVID test before entry. You could reasonably say that fully vaccinated and tested Canadians would pose as little a threat to the U.S. And you’d be right. Canadians still waiting to visit their southern neighbours — even fully vaccinated ones — are simply victims of that.
