The Government is encouraging overseas teachers to come and work in New Zealand amid the country's shortage. Government moves to attract overseas teachers to combat New Zealand's shortage are gaining momentum. It comes amid a major shortage of both primary and secondary school teachers. Almost a fifth of primary school teachers and half of high school teachers quit within five years of entering the profession. A new Ministry of Education analysis has found 650 extra primary teachers and 200 extra secondary teachers will be needed in 2019 to meet rising demand.
