Foreign fishermen influx: Tajuddin warns fishing permits could be revoked


ALOR SETAR: Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry will not hesitate to revoke the fishing permits of local fishermen who rent out their licences to foreigners. Its Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said to date, a total of 190 permits issued to local fishermen have been revoked. "If (the fisherman) could not afford or has lost interested, please return the permit to the authorities. He was asked to comment on a report that some of the local fishermen had been renting out their permits to foreign fishing companies for profit. Earlier, Tajuddin handed over aid to fishermen in the state in a programme held at Malaysia in Kuala Kedah.
