Foreign employment for Sri Lankans: Job opportunities in Japan

By Maheesha MudugamuwaSteps are being taken by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) to provide employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in Japan. As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Japan on 19 June 2019 to open the door to new employment opportunities for Sri Lankan youths with special skills in 14 areas, a large number of youths have already registered for employment in Japan by calling for applications through the SLBFE website (www.slbfe.lk). Passing the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test JLPT Level 4 (N4 Level) is mandatory for these specialised job opportunities, according to the SLBFE. In addition to conducting language examinations, skills and experience in 14 areas will be considered and only people between the ages of 18 and 45 can apply for the job. Meanwhile, a special tripartite discussion on the use of internet technology to conduct a language and skills test in Sri Lanka was held recently under the patronage of Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Market Diversification Piyankara Jayaratne.
