Beer in corner stores could cost Ontario taxpayers $1 billion, April 24Your article flags the wrong issue. Doug Ford is not the least concerned what it might cost other people for distribution or sales of alcohol in Ontario, as long as the profit goes to private interests (friends of Ford?) And it provides a one-time juicy plum to plug the big hole left by his tax cuts. If anyone has been scratching their head wondering why a non-drinker has been pressing so hard to ease alcohol sales in Ontario, Ford has provided the answer. Anyone who has followed this process in other provinces will know this has lead to higher prices, less variety of product, while the profit goes to private owners, rather than the treasury of Ontario.
