One of the most gruelling climbs Olympian Haley Smith has ever had to do in her life wasn’t even on a mountain bike. The COVID-19 pandemic had turned Smith’s whole world upside down, like it had for so many other Tokyo 2020 Olympic hopefuls. “And in October at those races, it blew up in my face.”So Smith needed to take a step back. “The reason I got into mountain biking in the first place was to recover from my eating disorder. “For the most part, mountain biking is what keeps me alive,” she said.
