MUMBAI: Community-driven hospitality company Airbnb has seen a rapid rise in users as well as listings in India in the past 12 months, after growing at a steady rate for years.One million Indians have travelled with Airbnb since 2008, country manager-India Amanpreet Bajaj said. In the past 12 months, the company has made major inroads in India with nearly 200% growth.“India is a key strategic market for Airbnb. “And we have something for everyone, from a budget room to an entire house and modern plush houses to luxurious villas.“According to Bajaj, Airbnb is focused on 230 million Indian millennials, who are travelling far more and are seeking authentic experiences.Cofounded by Brian Chesky in 2008, the San Francisco-based company is one of the world's most valued startups, estimated to be worth $31 billion. In March, Chesky made his maiden trip to India after seeing the potential of the market. We believe in creating micro entrepreneurs,“ Bajaj said.Airbnb has also partnered with the governments in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra to boost tourism in those states.
