Would you give up your right to vote just to afford a down payment? According to a new survey from Unison Home Ownership Investors, 22% of potential homebuyers would give up their right to vote in exchange for a 10% down payment. In addition to giving up hard-won rights and life’s finer things, buyers are willing to try alternative strategies to get that down payment. Unison’s survey revealed that 41% of respondents have less than $3,000 saved for their home. “But people, even though they have great jobs, are still challenged with coming up with a down payment,” Micheletti said.
