Football: FAM: Tan Cheng Hoe to take over as Harimau Malaya head coach

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has appointed Tan Cheng Hoe (pic) to take over as national football head coach after Portuguese Eduardo Vingada stepped down on Wednesday following a string of poor results. Cheng Hoe is a former Kedah coach and was appointed as an assistant to Vingada this year. "We would like to congratulate Tan Cheng Hoe on being appointed as the new Harimau Malaya head coach," said FAM general secretary Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin in a message posted on the FAM website Thursday (Dec 7). Vingada was appointed to the job in June after Tunku Ismail became FAM president, in place of Datuk Ong Kim Swee, who was put in charge of the national youth team. Cheng Hoe's task next year is to complete the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers campaign against Lebanon in March and also the AFF Suzuki Cup.
