Mercury Energy chief executive Fraser Whineray will joint Fonterra's executive team next year. Fonterra has appointed the current chief executive of Mercury Energy, Fraser Whineray, to its management team in the newly created role of chief operating officer, starting in early 2020. Miles Hurrell, Fonterra's chief executive, said Whineray was a "results-orientated" New Zealand business leader. Whineray will continue with Mercury until his move to his new role at Fonterra around the end of the first quarter of 2020. Farmer-owned Fonterra Cooperative Group shares and units in the Fonterra Shareholders Fund have risen by over a quarter since it unveiled its new strategy at the end of September.
