There’s a story that resonates with me in dark times, attributed to an American children’s TV show host, Mr Rogers. He said that when he was a boy and he would see scary things on the news, his mother would say to him, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”I think Mr Rogers would be bowled over by the sheer number of helpers we’ve seen in the UK. In the space of just a few days, almost 700,000 people have signed up to volunteer for our NHS in one capacity or another. We’ve seen businesses — like Dyson, Babcock and Airbus, to name a few — drop everything to work with the government to create the extra hospital ventilators
