Focus on inclusion: School redefines 'normal', 140 Children, two plays, one message of acceptance

ADVERTISEMENTAs the pupils of Bloomingdale Academy High School in Kalikapur presented the plays, their shared intention was to communicate a message of inclusion and acceptance. During Ariel’s birthday celebration in the adaptation of The Little Mermaid, the guests included both children with special needs and neurotypical children, a scenario that parents of neurodivergent children would like to see more frequently in real life. An inclusive school, the institute was founded in 2011 to have children with and without disabilities grow and learn together. The school’s objective is not just to mainstream the neurodiverse children but to change the mindset of the parents of neurotypical children. Kanungo said that despite producing “success stories” and showcasing the talents, the school still fights for acceptance and inclusion.
