Chiet and Ziegelbaur wrote that Caleb was initially diagnosed with meningitis – which shares similarities with amoeba Naegleria fowleri – but later doctors discovered he had contracted the "brain-eating" amoebae, the post alleged. Naegleria fowleri is an amoeba that’s commonly found in warm fresh water and soil, according to the CDC. Fox News Digital reached out to Charlotte County for comment on the presence of Naegleria fowleri in Port Charlotte Beach Park waters.
