A Republican congressional candidate in Florida sent a fundraising letter last week that called for the hanging of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and other Democrats, reported The Tampa Bay Times. In his letter, George Buck, who’s running to unseat Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist in 2020, said “we should hang these traitors,” apparently referring to Omar and Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.). The congresswomen make up three out of the four members of “the Squad,” a progressive group of first-term lawmakers of color. Asked for a comment, Buck initially told the Times that the letter was written by his campaign manager, whom he refused to name. “Anyone who commits treason against the United States should be tried to the full extent of the law,” Buck wrote to the Times.
