0Authorities in Botswana have issued a red alert on the possibility of flooding in the country with heavy rains and strong winds in coming days. A starker warning has come out of the United States Climate Prediction Centre, which says flooding could affect large chunks of the Southern Africa region. Scattered locally moderate or heavy rain was observed in northern Mozambique and Malawi. “A period of early-season heavy rain has led to many 30-day surpluses in Zambia, Malawi, parts of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. Meanwhile, suppressed rains are favoured over Madagascar, northern Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, and northern Zimbabwe.”In South Africa, the Department of Water and Sanitation warned that torrential rains would continue to pound the country.
