BENGALURU: Flipkart is doubling down on its private label and smartphone business, launching its first 'made-for-India' smartphone as part of the Billion private label headed by cofounder Sachin Bansal . India's largest online retailer expects the smartphone to capture 7-8% share of its largest category, which accounts for over half of its sales, by Q3 2018. "How big it will become is yet to be seen, we are pretty confident that it will be among the top 10 brands on the platform," Bansal told ET. According to Bansal, after Flipkart launched Android tablets in the past under its Digiflip private label, which did not see much success, there have been several learnings that have impacted the focus of products released under the Billion private label. With a pure internet company platform, Flipkart will have its task cut out.
