Fleeing motorist causes pile-up in New Lynn

A motorist fleeing police caused a pile-up before abandoning the vehicle and trying to escape on foot in the Auckland suburb of New Lynn today. Police said the driver of a blue Subaru Legacy station wagon failed to stop for them in the Green Bay/New Lynn area at about 10.50am. The Subaru was driven at speeds of up to 80km/h in a 50km/h zone when it collided with a moving car on the corner of South Lynn and Golf Rds. The Subaru then sped off and was located shortly after, abandoned in Avonleigh Rd, Green Bay. Two of three occupants of the speeding car had outstanding arrest warrants.
