Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader and prime ministerial candidate of the Democrat Party, said the scheme would deliver little sustainable benefit. Korn Chatikavanij, deputy leader and another Democrat prime ministerial candidate, criticised the policy as a wasteful redistribution of taxpayers' money with negligible economic or social impact.
