For the vast majority of Jews in the UK, December 13 was a day of extraordinary relief. The insecurity that we had faced at the election was unprecedented in Britain’s democratic history. Research had shown over the years that Labour voters were strong allies of the Jewish community and it was their abandonment of Jeremy Corbyn and the change in their votes that reminded us of the innate decency of the British people. There are Jews who are very nervous about being accused of having helped to defeat Corbyn and his far-left takeover of the Labour Party. History has taught us that if Jews are weak, we suffer.
