Five-on-one assault sends Halifax man to hospital with life-threatening injuries

HALIFAX—Five male suspects allegedly attacked a 29-year-old Halifax man on a downtown street early Saturday and the victim is now in hospital with life-threatening injuries, police say. In a Saturday morning news release, Halifax Regional Police said an aggravated assault took place around 2:30 a.m. at the corner of Grafton and Prince Streets—which is on the north side of the Nova Centre. David Boon said the alleged attack took place outside and the victim sustained head injuries. Boon said investigators did not know if the victim and suspects were known to each other, but the incident appeared to be isolated. As of about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Boon said at least one witness had been interviewed.
