The arrival of ultra-low temperature freezers to store Covid-19 vaccine doses in Christchurch will enable the city to become a vaccine hub. Photo: File / Getty ImagesChristchurch will become a Covid-19 vaccination hub following the arrival of ultra-low temperature freezers to store millions of doses at a time. Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said last week 17 more freezers, costing $20,000 each to support the vaccine rollout, are now in place and were going through final testing. A dozen fridges will be in Auckland, while five will be in Christchurch, meaning up to four million vaccine doses can be stored combined. There was a danger that the rollout would have to be slowed down or even stopped if vaccine supplies didn’t arrive in time.
