Food Minister Md Qamrul Islam told reporters of the initiative on Sunday after a meeting at the Secretariat. "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate it on Sep 7 at Kurhigram's Chilmari," he said. He said the poor families will be able to buy 30 kilograms of rice in the five months of March, April, September, October and November at Tk 10 per kg. The initiative will give widows and women with disabilities priority, Qamrul added. An Upazila executive officer-led committee will determine the poor families and allocate cards to them to buy the rice, he said.
