Five boys die after botched circumcision in Elgeyo Marakwet


At least five boys have lost their lives, and 28 others are currently hospitalized in various facilities in Elgeyo Marakwet following complications from a circumcision procedure. Officials reported that the hospitalized boys exhibited symptoms ranging from bacterial infections to signs of pneumonia. Michael Kibiwot, the county's Health CEC, mentioned that one of the admitted boys has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. "We have admitted 28 initiates who recently underwent the right of passage, and circumcision and have come into our hospitals with severe Pneumonia, Septicemia among others," he said. "Many parents are rushing their boys for traditional right of passage which is regarded as unhealthy because of the environment they operate.
