KUALA TERENGGANU: State Fisheries Department has arrested five Vietnamese fishermen for harvesting sea cucumbers, about 6.5 nautical miles off Pulau Kapas, in Marang, yesterday. "Upon checking, our men seized sea cucumbers worth RM2,000 from the fishing boat that was registered in Kelantan," he added. Zawawi said foreign fishermen have been known to encroach into Malaysian waters due to high demand for sea cucumbers which could fetch a market price of between RM70 and RM100 per kg. He said investigation showed the fishermen were using 'tangguk' which could badly damage the marine ecosystem while collecting the sea cucumbers. He said the case was being investigated under Section 8 (b) of the Fishery Act 1985, Section 11(3) (a), and Section 11(3)(b) of the same Act for violating the fishing licence, using the fishing equipment without document and possessing fishing equipment without licence.
