Tararua is set to have a new mayor after five people announced their plans to run for the top job. Allan Benbow, Ernie Christison, Tracey Collis, Shirley Hull, and Kay McKenzie will compete to become the district's next mayor at the upcoming elections. Eketahuna-based councillor Tracey Collis said she wanted to use her experience on council and as a businessperson, dairy industry leader and mother to lead a strong council. Pahiatua-based councillor Shirley Hull said as mayor she would advocate democracy and ensure what happened in Tararua was the peoples' choice.
