Tararua is set to have a new mayor after five people announced their plans to run for the top job. Allan Benbow, Ernie Christison​, Tracey Collis, Shirley Hull, and Kay McKenzie will compete to become the district's next mayor at the upcoming elections. Eketahuna-based councillor Tracey Collis said she wanted to use her experience on council and as a businessperson, dairy industry leader and mother to lead a strong council. Pahiatua-based councillor Shirley Hull said as mayor she would advocate democracy and ensure what happened in Tararua was the peoples' choice.
