Five Cumbrian businesses issued fines over employing illegal workers


A Carlisle carwash, takeaway in Cleator Moor and an Indian takeaway in Askam-in Furness are among the latest firms in the county to receive penalties. The fines, ranging from £40,000 to £90,000, were issued between July and September 2025, with details published by the Home Office in February. The largest fine on the Cumbrian penalty list was for the Raj (Suheb) Ltd after illegal workers were found at The Raj, an Indian restaurant and takeaway on King Street in Penrith, who were fined £90,000 by the Home Office. Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman Sardar, linked to the Auto Clean Hand Car Wash at Units 2-4 Lancaster House, King Street, Carlisle, also received a fine of £40,000. Kebab House CM Ltd received a fine of £45,000after illegal workers were encountered at the Kebab House on High Street, Cleator Moor.
