Fitchburg Council allowed to continue virtual participation, with some exceptions

There will be some exceptions or agreed-upon rules for alders going forward, though. During the council’s Tuesday, Dec. 14, meeting, alders unanimously approved extending the ability to meet telephonically or via the internet until March 31, 2022. Richardson advocated for changes to the closed session expectations for alders, saying that guidelines should have potentially been set sooner for alders participating online. “The last meeting, there was a concern during a closed session that someone online was talking to someone – it might have been a kid, spouse, whoever it was,” he said. Alders agreed with disallowing closed session participation over Zoom, stating that alders should prepare to be in-person if they want to participate.
