With the Queen to thank for this long weekend, we thought we’d take a look at the New Zealand towns named after Elizabeth II and her whānau. Given the huge number of places named after British military types, I was surprised to find there aren’t many. While I’m sure most of us are grateful the company failed on that front, all three “royal towns” in New Zealand are royally good places for a visit. KingstonThe king this tiny Southern Lakes town may or may not have been named after must have been a bit miffed. According to the New Zealand History website, both towns may have been named after places in Ireland.
