Suspicious activity was detected around the vessel, a local fishing boat named Afzeen, at a pier in tambon Tanyong Po about 1.10am, the Office of Marine Enforcement Command 3 said. Officials boarded the boat and a search discovered a modified tank holding 4,000 litres of untaxed diesel. The helmsman, Muhammad Sugree Tahmad, 52, admitted to smuggling the fuel from a neighbouring country, the marine office said.
