Fisherman missing in SouthlandStephen Russell Slope Point is the southernmost point of the South Island. A search and rescue operation has been launched in Southland after a fisherman was reported overdue late Sunday. A police spokesman said the man was fishing off rocks at Black Point. The search and rescue operation is under way at Slope Point, the spokesman said. Police visited the area on Sunday night and the man's car and some fishing equipment was found.
