First language brought good news for students, with 9,476 candidates getting full marks in it — the most for any paper. The number of centums in second language, too, increased by 33.41%, from 3,492 to 4,659. V. Sumangala, Director of Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB), said a majority of students picked Kannada as their first language. Of the 8.3 lakh students who appeared for the exams, 5.1 lakh wrote the Kannada test. However, there is a steep decline in the third language results, with 100% results down from 11,105 last year to 8,973 this time.
