First phase of Logistics Masterplan completed: Liow

KUALA LUMPUR: The Logistics and Trade Facilitation Masterplan has successfully completed its first phase — Debottleneck (2015-2016) — which aimed to remove the root causes that have held back the logistics industry. In a statement issued after the 3rd National Logistics Task Force (NLTF) meeting, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said 85 per cent of the Action Items under Phase 1 under the Masterplan have been completed. Liow said the remaining Action Items require more time to complete as they involved huge infrastructure development or amendment of the relevant laws and regulations. On logistics infrastructure development, Liow said it requires huge capital outlay from both the public and private sectors. The current total investment in the logistics infrastructure amounted to RM14.88 billion in four sub-sectors — rail, road, maritime and aviation — while the total amount for the proposed logistics infrastructure under planning is estimated at RM101.54 billion.
