First loss since 1998 expected for Auckland Airport as Covid crunch continues

Auckland Airport’s international passenger volumes have been a fraction of what they were before Covid-19. Auckland International Airport is expected to post its first loss since listing on the stock market in 1998 due to “a monumental decline” in international passengers as a result of the pandemic. Forsyth Barr analyst Andy Bowley said in a recent research note on Auckland Airport, titled “COVID Casualty”, that the brokerage firm expected the airport to report on Thursday its first after tax loss since listing in 1998. Forsyth Barr expected the airport’s property business to exhibit a more “defensive performance”, or relatively stable performance despite the current state of the economy, he said. Forsyth Barr expected that to have strengthened further into the holiday season, he said.
