The Pinery Provincial Park will play host to a traditional Indigenous deer harvest next week. According to Ontario Parks, Indigenous harvesters will follow agreed-upon safety measures and harvesting techniques, employing rifles and archery equipment. This will be the fifth year local Indigenous communities have carried out the deer harvest at the Pinery. Indigenous deer harvests were also held in Rondeau, Clear Creek Forest and Short Hills Provincial Parks. As outlined in the province's deer management policy, the government works with Indigenous communities to "develop a better understanding of historical and current harvest levels, as well as future needs, to inform deer management planning."
