Firework hits boy's eye, house burns, 402 people call the fire service on Guy Fawkes' nightKEVIN STENT/FAIRFAX NZ The fire service attended over 330 fireworks-related callouts nationwide on Guy Fawkes. A 10-year-old is in hospital and at least one other person walked away from Guy Fawkes' celebrations with serious burns during a busy night for North Island emergency services. An Auckland boy was hit in the eye by a firework and taken to Starship hospital with moderate injuries on Saturday night. In the South Island, however, the night was relatively quiet for Guy Fawkes, Fire Service shift manager Brent Dunn said. "We've had some pretty busy nights with Guy Fawkes," Dunn said, so extra staffing meant they were prepared for worse.
