Planes continue to land and depart from Palmerston North Airport while firefighters tend to a scrub fire on its fringes. Firefighters have doused a scrub fire that broke out behind the Palmerston North Airport. Emergency services were called to Railway Rd after a scrub fire sparked near a runway, in a feild at the back of the airport at 2.11pm on Sunday. Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman David Meikel said the fire burned through a 50 metre by 20 metre patch of scrub, and firefighters extinguished the blaze at 3.30pm.
