A fire in a Tekapo restaurant has caused significant damage to the building, according to emergency servicesFire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) southern communications shift manager Andrew Norris said crews estimated that "about half" of the Tekapo Tavern and Reflections Restaurant building has incurred significant "internal and external" damage due to the fire. Fenz were called just before 1pm on Sunday and by the time the crews arrived, the fire was "heavily involved", Norris said. A crew from Fairlie and one from Tekapo were initially dispatched but Norris said a second Fairlie crew and one from Twizel are now at the scene. Norris said fire investigator Bevan Findlay would be in charge of determining the cause of the fire.
