Three fire engines and three tankers are at a tyre fire at Omaui, near Invercargill. A pile of between 500 and 1000 tyres is on fire at Omaui, near Invercargill, and there is a risk that it could spread to 1000 bales of hay nearby. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said fire crews from Bluff, Hedgehope, Invercargill and Wyndham were at the scene. The fire was in a rural area, so it was thought that there was no risk to anyone nearby from the smoke from the tyres, he said. Emergency services were called to the fire, on Omaui Rd, at 4.22pm.
