Firefighters Utilize Home For Hands-On Training

For the next eight weeks, firefighters from all over Lake County will be participating in training exercises at the three-bedroom house. On Thursday morning, about eight firefighters on four trucks from Sorrento, Astor and Yalaha were conducting search and rescue training exercises in the house. Although the house will not be burned, Gilligan said the training firefighters will receive is equally important for the crews. The training will count toward mandated training hours the firefighters must perform every year, which Gilligan said is another perk. Every year, firefighters must perform 18 training hours at a fire rescue facility, 192 training hours in the field, six hours of hazardous materials training and 12 hours of driver training.
