Firefighter doing the hard yards for climb

Climbing to the top of the Sky Tower is hard enough, but one Dunedin firefighter is taking it to another level. The Otago Polytechnic lecturer is one of 100 firefighters who will be participating in the Firefighter of Steel challenge, a longer and harder climb than usual. The main Sky Tower Challenge event involves climbing 51 flights, or 1103 steps, carrying 25kg of gear. Practising for the Firefighter SkyTower Stair Challenge at the University of Otago Business School is Brighton firefighter Brian Freeman. He has done the lower-difficulty climbs three times, but had never taken part in the Firefighter of Steel challenge.
